Light steel keel + gypsum board: The golden duo for modern interior partition walls and ceilings

2026-02-06
1、 Light Steel Keel andgypsum board: why can they become the "golden combination" in the decoration industry?
Light steel keel is made of high-quality galvanized steel strip as raw material, rolled through cold bending process, and is the core skeleton supporting gypsum board; Gypsum board is mainly made of Natural Gypsum as the main raw material, with the addition of auxiliary materials for compression. As a decorative layer, it has both practicality and decorative properties. The combination of the two can not only make up for their respective shortcomings, but also achieve the effect of 1+1>2. Its core advantages are concentrated in the following 5 points, which are suitable for the diverse needs of modern decoration.

Lightweight and high-strength, reducing building load, suitable for multiple scenarios
Compared with traditional brick walls and wooden keels, the density of furring channels is only 1/3-1/2 of traditional wooden keels. It is lightweight but has outstanding strength, with a yield strength of ≥ 235MPa. The main keel span can reach 3-4m, and it can easily bear the weight of gypsum board and subsequent decorative materials without deformation. Gypsum board itself has a lightweight texture, and the weight of the partition wall formed by the combination of the two is only 1/10 of that of traditional brick walls. The ceiling system can also significantly reduce the load on the main building, making it not only suitable for new construction, but also for scenarios that are sensitive to load-bearing such as old building renovation and refurbishment. There is no need to reinforce the main structure, reducing decoration costs.
Environmental protection and energy conservation, in line with the trend of green decoration
In modern decoration, environmental friendliness has become a core demand, and the combination of light steel keel and gypsum board perfectly fits this trend. Light steel keel, formaldehyde free, odorless, recyclable and reusable, in compliance with green building standards; Gypsum board does not contain harmful gases, has no toxic smoke after combustion, and has good insulation performance. Especially suitable for spaces with high environmental requirements such as residences, hospitals, schools, etc., truly realizing the demand of "ready to live after installation".
Efficient construction, shortened construction period, and reduced labor costs
The combination of light steel keel and gypsum board adopts a factory standardized production and on-site assembly installation mode, with a simple and efficient construction process. Light steel keel is quickly connected through plugins and rivets, and plasterboard is fixed with self tapping screws. A skilled worker can complete the installation of dozens of square meters of partition walls or ceilings in one day. At the same time, the two are flexible in splicing and can easily adapt to various layouts and space sizes, avoiding material waste. The construction period can be shortened by 30% -50%, significantly reducing labor costs, especially suitable for commercial spaces such as office buildings and shops that pursue decoration efficiency.
Moisture proofing, fire prevention, sound insulation, building a strong safety line, and improving living comfort
Safety and comfort are the foundation of decoration, and this "golden combination" is particularly prominent. Gypsum board itself belongs to Class A non combustible materials. The fire resistance limit of 12mm thick fire-resistant gypsum board is ≥ 1h, and it is matched with fire-resistant metal channel. The overall fire resistance performance meets international standards. In terms of sound insulation, more than 5cm of sound insulation rock wool can be filled between the steel channels and the gypsum board. In addition, the sound insulation characteristics of the plaster board itself can effectively block indoor and outdoor noise. The sound insulation capacity of the partition wall can reach more than 40dB, which is suitable for spaces with high sound insulation requirements such as bedrooms, study rooms, and conference rooms. In addition, in damp areas such as kitchens and bathrooms, using water-resistant gypsum board combined with rust proof light steel keel can also achieve moisture-proof and durable effects.
Flexible design, suitable for diverse decoration styles
Whether it is simple and modern, industrial style, or warm Nordic, the combination of light steel keel and gypsum board can be easily adapted. Light steel keel can be bent and cut according to design requirements, creating complex ceiling shapes such as curved, circular, and stepped shapes, as well as irregular partition walls; The surface of gypsum board is flat and smooth, and can be directly coated with latex paint, pasted with wallpaper, and tiled without the need for additional leveling, with strong decorative properties. At the same time, the combination of the two partition walls can be flexibly disassembled and renovated. If the spatial layout needs to be adjusted in the later stage, there is no need for large-scale demolition and renovation, which is more practical and meets the needs of long-term residential or commercial space iteration.
2、 Light steel keel+gypsum board: key construction points for partition walls and ceilings
To fully leverage the advantages of the 'golden combination', construction details are crucial. Based on years of industry experience, the control of the following core construction points can ensure that the partition wall and ceiling are firm, flat, and durable, avoiding problems such as cracking and deformation in the later stage.
① Wall construction: pay attention to firmness and sound insulation
Keel layout: The top and ground keels need to be firmly fixed with nails, and the spacing between nails should be controlled at around 600mm; The vertical keel spacing should not exceed 40cm and should be closely connected to the top and ground keels. Strengthening keels should be added to key areas such as doorways to enhance load-bearing capacity.
Gypsum board fixing: Use gypsum boards with a thickness of 12mm or more, and fix them with 25-35mm long self tapping screws. The distance between the screws on the board edge is 150mm, the distance between the screws in the middle of the board is 200mm, and the distance between the screws and the edge of the gypsum board is 10-15mm. The screwing depth should be controlled at 0.5-1mm to avoid damaging the board surface or fixing it loosely.
Seam and filling: When splicing gypsum boards, staggered installation is required to avoid the formation of "cross joints". 2-5mm expansion joints should be reserved between the boards for filling the joint gypsum; The interior of the partition wall needs to be filled with soundproof rock wool to enhance the sound insulation effect. The filling should be uniform and full, without gaps.

② Ceiling construction: pay attention to flatness and load-bearing capacity
Keel layout: The spacing between the main keels of the suspended ceiling should be controlled between 400-600mm, and the spacing between the fixing points of the suspension rods should be 900-1200mm. When the length of the suspension rods exceeds 1000mm, reverse support should be installed; The secondary keel is arranged vertically to the main keel, with a spacing of 300-400mm. There must be a secondary keel below the board joint to prevent the gypsum board from hanging and cracking.
Gypsum board selection and fixation: 9.5mm thick gypsum board is used for ordinary ceilings, and 12mm thick gypsum board is used for large-span areas; When fixing, tighten the screws from the middle to the periphery to prevent uneven bending of the board under stress, and the screw caps need to be treated with rust prevention.
Detail processing: Use L-shaped edge strips at the junction of the ceiling and wall, reserve 5-8mm expansion joints to avoid wall deformation affecting the ceiling; The maintenance port adopts a frame made of light steel keel, with standard specifications such as 300 × 300mm. Large maintenance ports require additional cross supports to prevent deformation.
